My wife had a nice afternoon shopping at Harrods so it was my turn to indulge a bit in London. We visited the Royal Greenwich Observatory the following day and both enjoyed it immensely.
The walk from Cutty Sark through Greenwich Park up the hill to the Observatory was beautiful.
Lots of history walking through the old buildings including Flamsteed House, The Meridian Observatory, Altazimuth Pavilion and the Great Equatorial Telescope.
Finished the day at the Peter Harrison Planetarium for a 40 minute visual tour of the local night sky in a lounge chair theatre.

PS: You can forget observing or imaging in the UK during summer , it gets darkish around 11.30pm and the Sun starts rising at 4.00am ( never gets pitch dark , it’s like a twilight, even worse up around Scotland)
Apparently Winter is mostly foggy , cloudy and wet
I take my hat off to UK amateur astronomers they must be a passionate lot.

Great photos Martin

We had a family holiday to UK and France in 2018. I really enjoyed Greenwich and the Royal Observatory. It was a treat to see Harrison's clocks ticking away. If I ever get back there I would like a day or two to visit the Maritime Museum.

Thanks Alex and Andy,
This trip was planned in 2019 but COVID hit like many folk who planned OS trips
Heading off to Malta tomorrow to visit my wife’s family and enjoy the Mediterranean summer
Looking forward when I get home late July to do some observing and imaging under our beautiful Winter skies

Cheers

Thanks Richard and Mike,
Relaxing looking at Spinola Bay St Julian’s from our 3rd floor apartment balcony eating Pastizzi and drinking Cisk
Bloody hot though , 31C today
Summer night skies have been clear in Malta so far , summers have very stable weather being in the centre of the Mediterranean near Tunisia
Asked my wife’s family do they know of any amateur astronomers in Malta , they relied No !! Not many I don’t think !!
Should have chucked a finderscope in the hand luggage to do some lunar observing

Cheers
Martin
