Hi all,

I took a few wide field pics of different Milky Way regions during SPSP as an adjunct to the telescope imaging.
The first two were taken through a Samyang 135mm lens and the last through a Pentax 16-50 zoom. All 3 were taken with an astro-modded Pentax K-5iis DSLR tracked (but unguided) on a 38 year old Vixen Super Polaris mount.

The first image is the well known region spanning the border of Sagittarius and Serpens and it includes M16, M17 and M24 along with IC 1284 & a number of other HII regions, clusters & dark nebulae. Hi res here: Astrobin Sagittarius to Serpens (https://www.astrobin.com/full/xcjg6o/B/)

The second image is a 2-panel mosaic covering a rich region of the Scorpius Milky Way, containing the Cat's Paw & Lobster Nebulae, M6 & M7 open star-clusters and the more obscure Sh2-15 towards the lower left. Hi-res: Astrobin Scorpius Milky Way (https://www.astrobin.com/full/ldbf6d/B/)

The last one is region I'm sure you'll al recognise. Unfortunately my Pentax 16-50 is no Sigma Art and suffers from pretty extensive coma (amongst other problems). Whilst I cropped out the worst of it there is still a fair bit so not worth linking a hi-res version. I captured this on my first night at SPSP after the clouds had finally gone and I'd polar aligned both mounts & I didn't have the energy to do anything more serious.

Comments/critiques welcome as always. :)

Pete.

These are great Pete, nice adjuncts to telescope shots, while basking under the awesome skies at Wiruna :)... always good not to let star light go to waste when you can

Gorgeous images! The detail and colour is just fantastic for such a wide field. Stunning!

Thanks Mike much appreciated!

I'm not sure "basking" is the term I'd use given how cold it seemed this year  but I wholeheartedly agree about not letting good star light go to waste.
Most years I only get the chance to travel to truly dark skies once (& this was my first opportunity in two years) so I always try & make the most of it. :)

Thanks for taking the time to comment Dave. Glad you liked 'em! :hi:
