Printing Astrophotography

I was wondering if anyone could point me to a thread regarding printing astro photos?

Or if anyone has any experience printing them?

Hi Rory, are you going to print your own with a decent Printer or would you be having a second party print them for you.:shrug:

If is the later I cant help much, however I have printed my own always, with a good printer and genuine ink and paper.:thumbsup:

For example, Harvey Norman or similar will not do your work any justice.

I have had a few A2 and A1 size prints done of the Orion Nebula.
Not sure how good a quality you are after, But i just went down to our local Kmart store and had them done.
I know our store has good calibration colour wise, but for me they came out just fine at this size.

The local kwik kopy worked fine for me. Get gloss, not matte; the blacks are richer. Beyond that, you'd need to take it to a professional photography printers who specialise in all the different types of printing technology you can get.

I’ve used https://www.frameshop.com.au/ as I wanted printing and framing in one service. The quality is pretty good for both the print and the frame and there is plenty of choice of type of paper and frames.

I've used OfficeWorks to print off a couple of mine. Only up to A3 size, though. I read through their website for all the details of what to take in there and went with a CMYK TIFF file.

To my eyes, they came out pretty well when printed on the semi-gloss paper and then put into a frame behind glass.

I'd highly recommend any printer that prints by sublimation.
I was fortunate enough to be given a complete Kodak photo kiosk by the local pharmacist when both printers stopped working and he couldn't sell the unit. It came complete with a highly complex 6850 Kodak small format printer and the Kodak 8800 which will do up to 12x8" utilizing a multi colour ribbon.
My son and I stripped both printers right down, chased up the faults and fixed both though we do need to replace a motor with plastic worm gear which is worn on the smaller unit. I'll find the correct one one day or we'll mill our own gear from brass and replace both plastic gears in the drive chain.
The pharmacist is a friend and was happy to see we got both printers working instead of going to landfill, it wasn't easy and we'd never played with printers of that complexity prior (I have a background in electronics and IT, my son is just brilliant without all of the study).
I was also given new paper and printer ribbons which he'd had in stock.


They now have ink versions of dye sublimation printers but I believe the ink is expensive, as are the ribbons and paper for the units I have when I eventually run out.


In saying that there's no other place in town other than an industrial printer where I can get prints done at 12x8.
