The dear, sweet, long suffering wife was broadly mentioning that I spend absolutely all my time on astro and that I could possibly, occasionally, do something for her, well something like that. She rattled off a bit of a list, I assume, can't remember. 30+ years of marriage, 27 stitches and two concussions has taught me to pay attention to the subtle signals.
Late that night while I was making an astro snack I noticed a delicately placed list in the middle of the kitchen bench with my name on it in big underlined letters (obviously so I didn't need my glasses to read it, she's so sweet) itemising the points from the discussion earlier, I'm guessing. As fortune would have it I got some butter on the list, so being pragmatic I held it up for the dog to lick clean. I swear I didn't coat it in butter and give it to the dog as a treat. Probably best pretend we didn't see it.
So it was just me and the dog on a beautifully clear moonless night and even though she'd been paid in advance in buttered note, her only contribution to the brain storming was the occasional head tilt. Dearest wife is into endurance racing horses (160km). I was stuck without a get out of jail list. What to do? Hang on, she likes horses...
Dear Heart awoke to cup of tea in bed and a monument to my attentive, selfless devotion: a (hasty) four panel mosaic of the Blue Horsehead Nebula. You know how some things have that veritable "heirloom" feel about them at the very first glance. She's said "That's different, not as loud as your other ones". Considering all the effort I went to I thought that was a bit rude.
Anyway, I heard somewhere that mother's day is coming up soon, maybe I could do the other horsey for that? Let me tell ya, being a trophy husband is more work than you'd think.

Mate this is brilliant on so many levels! I’ll restrain from giving marital advice but may I say I think that’s a phenomenal shot and a masterful example to us all!!!

Great capture John. I was actually looking this as that as my next target with my 300mm lens when the custom focusing setup I've ordered from Joshua arrives, hoping by the weekend with Saturday looking clear, but unlikely to get across the country that fast...

Cheers,
Mark

Hey oska,

You better be careful with SWMBO, or you will be in the doghouse.

Great image of the nebula, with brilliant colours and detail, too!

Cheers,
V

Cheers Steve^2.
I ran it by her first of course. She was laughing so hard she could barely annunciate "you're such an idiot".
Can't recommend the IMX571 highly enough. I need a mono.

Not sure what is more entertaining, the astro pic or your tale  The former is inspiring and delightfully ethereal (... added to my to-do list), the latter is hilarious and would make a good Monty Python skit! Great job on both and thanks for sharing, John. Alex
