We've been having more fun playing with way oversampling the southern whatnots (is there a SW catalog?). Obviously it's a self inflicted exercise in frustration, and oh boy was it, all fun and learning. The full moon kills guiding almost instantly, depending on the angle, and being so close to the full moon was a stroke of genius (or something), naturally.

I was going to call this The Giblets as it's the guts of the chicken but a meditating Buddha popped out. Numb-a-stay. Not more voodoo, it's too messy.

With this framing I'm getting terrible internal reflections from Lambda Cen. which I reluctantly clone stamped out in each filter. O2 was the worst.

I've bin x2 in PI to help get the sampling back to where guiding was ~0.7"

Included is the raw O3 and an unmolested effort for comparisons & comments.

I would be grateful if someone could give me some tips on how to sort out the harsh reflections.

~20 each of 600s 200g -10C SHO

LX200 8" @ F/10 + OAG & Sedna-M
EQ6R
ASI1600MM + Antlia 3nm

NINA + PI

As always criticisms, tips, tricks and comments most welcome.

Cheers.

Hi John,

Congratulations on a beautiful image. The composition is perfect for the thinking man, whatever and the glistening star symbolic of an idea just born.:thumbsup:

As for the pesky reflections/artefacts, they could be due to a few things, stray light in to your scope, the 1600mm microlensing artefacts and the filter halo/reflections.

From memory I recall having read that one way to overcome/minimize some of the 1600mm microlensing artefacts was to ensure the exposure was not too close to full well capacity, so perhaps try experimenting with reducing your sub-exposure time, one stop at a time.

As regards stray light, try using a deep dew-shield / hood and/or waiting for a time when the Moon isn't in the way.

The filter may be responsible for some/all of the halo effect / some reflections so ensure that it is correctly fitted and/or experiment with or borrow another for comparison.

Well done on a very thoughtful image:thumbsup:

Best
JA

Hi John. Another superb mono image regardless of reflections ... it's your processing and palette choices that I like, and naming conventions too  Thank for sharing. Alex

Cheers mate, I'm trying (in vain obviously) to be more gently-gently on the saturation.
