We realised the other night that it was over a month since we had done any night time astronomy. Venus beckoned and Mars was not far away in a two dimensional sense but unfortunately a very long way away and very small in reality! These barely pass the test of being recognisable for what they are but it was fun trying :)

Mars only just has some vague surface features that look similar to the simulation for the time and date.

Both taken with our 6" SCT, 4.6x barlow and ASI174MM. Venus taken with a #47 Wratten filter.

Nice work guys! Venus continues to impress in the evening sky- I want to try and follow its progression over the next few months. I’m really interested to give Mars a shot but it’s in the trees from my setup location so might have to move things around. I’m amazed you could get anything at all!! Great stuff!

Thanks David :)
There was a momentary gap in the clouds early this evening and there was Venus looking impressive again, but there was no chance that the gap would last long enough to set up a scope. We hope the clouds are more co-operative for you.
