Well, last night was clear at least and I had some free time. Everything was swimming in the eyepiece so the conditions left a "bit" to be desired but I plowed on regardless.
Out came the LPI and laptop, point at Luna and grab some shots of the Catharina, Cyrillus and Theophilus triplet area. Individual shots were all over the place but enough good ones were captured to have a go at stacking.
Pointing at Saturn, this time with a barlow, produced a fuzzy blob but when stacked its amazing what actually came out of these shots.
Things learnt were:
- exposure levels need to be much lower as they become overexposed with stacking
- the platform really allows tracking for imaging for quite long periods, Saturn was around the centre of the FOV for many minutes at a time with the barlow
- need a "reverse" barlow to allow the capture of the whole moon in one go
- processing takes a really long time
Considering the conditions I am very happy with the outcomes and the learning curve so far :)
