Where's the light?

I was just outside watching a satellite and thought, "The sun is set, the moon hasn't risen, so where's the light come from that allows me to see the satellite?":lol:

Uhh, if it's on the same side as Earth, wouldn't the earth be blocking any light from hitting the satellite? Same reason as why, it becomes...night?
