Hmmm.. I thought I'd get the new D40 that Jenny bought me out tonight for a crack at the moon at prime focus on my little WO 66mm refractor. Wow, getting to know how a DSLR works in comparison to a webcam is going to be pretty drawn out affair I think. Had to laugh given that I took 25 frames and stacked them in Registax - and while it was doing that it was taking nearly a full Gb of system memory, yet the final result is a 1024x768 jpg which turned out at 63kb.
Good fun though!
Cheers

Lovely shot Chris !
I suspect there's more detail there to be teased out of that shot.
Maybe try adjusting the levels and/or contrast etc.
If you have something like Photoshop or Paintshop Pro then it will bring up the detail nicely.

Thanks Andrew. It was taken at p/focus,using the little 300mm f/l 66mm scope - so the moon took up about 1/20th of the frame. I had to crop it way down so we're not seeing it at any where near what it could be I guess. I hope that a 5x barlow will help me get a little closer so that I can capture more detail :)
Cheers

well done. try and experiment, you might be able to get a earthshine look as well
Well for a 66mm scope you've done very well indeed.
Now try it on the 12" but make sure you wear sunnies. :cool2:
That's pretty cool, i love images like that even though i sometimes hate the moon.
Leon
Well done Chris, that's a lovely image.
Looking forward to more.
