Hi everyone this is a 4 panel mosaic incorporating Carina, Lady Liberty, the Southern tadpoles and some clusters I just want the collective wisdom of the group about orientation, Upright or Horizontal?
images taken over 2 nights Carina panels 1 and 2 night one and the tadpoles/liberty night 2 all with the Askar FRA300 and the 294mc pro L-Ultimate filter. Processed in the usual way

Can I be completely honest and respectfully suggest neither? :D

This IMO is a classic example of "just because I can fit all these objects into the frame doesn't mean I should do it"!

Ultimately, the viewer's eye darts from L-R (or top to bottom in your other version) and ultimately rests in the centre, where there is nothing to see.

Both halves compete with each other for attention, which neither ends up getting.

If this feedback is of any value to you, please consider watching my presentation "Creating Dynamic Images" (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wlc5qKJKRJk) on the Astro Imaging Channel.
Among many things, I discuss the merits of astrophotographers' composition & framing from a photographer's perspective. :)

Hi Nik,

Definitely the horizontal version. It's more akin to what the eyes see when looking at something, be it 4:3, 3:2, 16:9 whatever. It is just more natural; however for some subjects, like people, portrait format does look good for a head and shoulders style portrait.

Best

I've added a slightly deeper more brighter version

Yeah, that’s a good improvement.
More detail where the eye falls.

The reprocessed version looks great. Andy is quite right though, if I look at it as a compositional piece of art, as a "work" so to speak, aesthetically it does feel a little unbalanced to the eye...but if I look at it as more like a map, it still looks intriguing, nice work...I like how NGC 3576 is sticking its nose up from the lower left corner too, like "oh looky there!" a little added bonus  .

I always find these wide field shots intriguing just surveying the “landscape” and just how all these regions connect to each other. I feel that the Statue of Liberty gets a bit lost our there across from big ol carina- but mate I can’t fault how it all looks panning around. Lovely natural beauty!
