Got this with the 300mm f2.8 lens from Bert and Houghys cooled DSLR, 300mm at f4, uv/ir filter
2x10 mins ISO200, sensor temp 1degree, through some high cloud and moonlight hence noisy image, though Im surprised so much came out considering the horrible conditions. I thought the only objects here were the reflection nebulae I didnt realise there was a big dark nebula here so far south.

what a fantastic find, and considering how cruddy the weather is that is simply amazing

Nice image not only given the conditions but also given it's something dark... - Berkeley 142?

Scott, well captured mate

There are quite a lot of Dark Nebulas around the SCP area. They are all marked as a DSS-Number. I've tried to image some, but the Toucam can't get them

Expecting a lot from the Toucam aren't I :P
But, ya don't know if ya don't try :)

Thanks :)
I can only imagine how deep I could reach if this rig was at a dark site and I did 1 or 2 hours worth of imaging on this object.

Nice image Scott.
Just a thought why dont you give MYCN18 a go, I would love to see a good amateur image taken.
Most of the images I have seen are all HST:thumbsup: Ron

We'll have to get you, Houghy and the other Novocastrian boys to come to Kulnura next time Scott, it's been a while.

Great work mate !

Thanks all
Yes I will try for Mycn18 soon.
Yes I now have a Freezersuit so chilly nights at Kulnura wont be a problem :)

Hi Scott,

That's a nice image and when I saw your image it immediately rang bells with me. I actually have a picture of that nebula hanging on my office wall - well to be more precise I have a Akira Fujii poster of the southern cross region hanging on the wall and it shows the nebula (complex?) you have imaged.

Just guessing tIt's most likely a Cederblad object ?

Well done mate.

Cheers

Thanks :)
I will see about re-imaging this towards next new moon, by then it will be past meridan eliminating the need for a meridian flip for a long imaging run.

How big is the field in the picture? I am tempted to do a shot of it with my FSQ-106 and STL-11000m.

It is shown in TheSky as IC 2631 "9th mag star in large nebula"
