Some preliminary images. I was set up near Peter Ward with my simple Canon 600D and camera tripod. Looking forward to seeing Peter's images. I am sure they will be absolutely stunning.
Perfect conditions. Praise the Lord!

Very impressive Richard- I’m in awe with this event and you’ve done well with your setup- I bet the momentary full eclipse would have been a powerful moment to be present in at the time.
Cheers

Well done Richard!......and it was a delight to meet you in Exmouth.
We are on the long road back....and have to say the WA police presence in Exmouth was oppressive. The road closures and lowered asinine temporary speed limits were a joke. The crowds were modest at best. No way were there 50,000 visitors....which the shop vendors we chatted to were happy to confirm.
I was breathalysed twice and also pulled over as their fancy patrol car cameras could not read my front rego plate. No ticket, but....Seriously?
Compared to our experience in Jackson Hole (USA) our mob were money grabbing and bubble wrapping beyond belief.
At Jackson Hole they provided hundreds of porta-loo's at 100m intervals along a road close to the centre-line and allowed one and all to park on its north side for miles. No Charge, except a standard national park entry fee.
The same could have been done along Charles knife road. Duh.
The bureaucrat(s) that organised Exmouth should have their butts kicked.
Gripes aside....indeed Nature sure put on a show!

Hi Peter,
I also got breathalysed twice on our road trip.
Flying home on Sunday night we were at a window seat facing south and saw the red glow of the aurora Australis on the horizon!
Safe travels.
Richard.

Not sure who the thought were gathering in Exmouth….Umbraphiles….Bikie gangs…very similar you know.
Richard, great captures! Especially like the 2nd diamond ring with the outer Corona.
I agree the prep by authorities was a bit over the top, but I didn't think it detracted too much from the experience. I picked a site beyond the Charles Knife road barrier on top of a little hill and just walked there.
Saw the aurora (plus Steve) last night from home. Nice show but I was too knackered to watch it for long.

Breathalysed only twice? I was four times - Geraldton, Carnarvon (twice), and Exmouth. Plus having cops flash their lights at me 3 times for driving at the reckless speed of 45 km/h!
I read the WA gov'mint spend over $21M on the event. Well, I suppose all those extra police, rangers, and sunburnt and dehydrated road-block workers, plus the hundreds of hired solar-powered trailer-mounted signs flashing "MAJOR EVENT IN PROGRESS" every few hundred metres and remote security cameras at every possible parking spot, intersection and side track for hundreds of kilometres along the highway was tax-payers money put to good use.
Having said that, most of the road-block workers were very nice and apologetic and several did say that it was the top-level city bureaucrats who set the silly rules.
