What's the world coming to!!!
This must be one of the most ridiculous articles I've seen for a long time!!!

If anyone is interested I followed up on the two "solar eye damage" reports.
Bottom line NO lasting damage!
The new generation of solar glasses are 110% safe - for uv through NIR.
I can give you the links if you want.....

I saw and read the article too and even remarked to my daughter about the misleading information they were disseminating. They did have a short clause near the end of the article saying that , if the eclipse glasses are damaged, they could be dangerous to use , this should have been at the start of the article.
Quoting numbers that had presented to hospitals with eye problems after previous solar eclipses doesn't mean observing the eclipse with the glasses is dangerous, it may mean that those people were not using suitably filtered glasses or other suitably filtered equipment.
I still have the eclipse glasses my kids used for the Ceduna Eclipse in 2002 and they are still safe to use, no pin holes or scratches in the filter material, am saving them for the 2028 event.

Hans, et al,
Any of the cheap cardboard solar filters with EC rating are very safe.
In the reported papers they mention a guy, a "Hippie", who looked at the Sun directly up to 30 min a day as part of his "looking for solar guidance".....
Nothing whatsoever about looking at the eclipsed sun for a second or so and NO evidence that the current approved solar glasses are unsafe.

Ken, I am not concerned about the safety of the cheaper cardboard solar filter glasses, I believe they are very safe. One came with the DayStar Solar scope I just purchased ..did a trial fit .. didn't like it. I just think the wrap around style will give a better experience by reducing the amount of light bleed. I also prefer the wrap around style Sunglasses.
