After David's inspiring Venus pictures, we had an opportunity to try a daytime image. We hadn't tried to image a planet before sunset previously so it was a bit of fun. The sun was actually behind our house and Venus was a little higher but between our house and the neighbour's house so plenty of room to the horizon. There was no way that you could see Venus with the naked eye but it was easily viewable in a finder scope.

The set up was actually for our solar shots and not our planetary set up. We tried two filters, one a Wratten #47 and the other an 850nm IR pass filter. The camera was an ASI174MM on our K102 refractor with a 4.6x barlow, giving a focal length of 3220mm.

These are not awe inspiring pictures, certainly not our best of Venus but fun to try during the day.
The first picture is the Wratten #47.

Nice job guys! Yes first one with the #47 looks a bit cleaner but could have just been changes in the seeing. Glad you could catch her!!

Thanks Mirko and David :)
We'll have to give this daytime planetary imaging another go, it's very convenient. We bought the Wratten #47 specifically for Venus but that was the first time we have had a chance to give it a try. Mercury might be a challenge :)
