Skywatcher Serial Cabel

Hi Guys,

Does anyone have a serial cable for a V3 Synscan that I can purchase or borrow to update the firmware of the hand controllerand motor control box?

I ordered USB To Rj11 Rj12 Adapter Cable EQMOD from ebay and didn't work..

Hi Ali,

If you bought an EQMOD cable, that will allow you to connect your mount directly to your computer and control it from there using software such as NINA, SequenceGeneratorPro or KStars (depending on whether you have Windows, Linux or macOS installed).

Somewhere I have an old USB to RS-232 adaptor with the DB9 plug. I'm happy to lend it to you, but you'd need to find a DB9 to (whatever) adaptor for your SynScan controller.

Hi Steve,

I'm using a usb to control the mount via nina, but the motor control box is new and is running on the original firmware, the only way to update is via the serial cable rj11 to serial port cable. I believe it comes with the skywatcher mounts but since I've bought it second hand it wasn't provided.

Just wanted to give Ross, the_blacke a massive shout out for going out of his way and paying me a visit yesterday to help troubleshoot and update the firmware! What an absolute legend,Thank you!


We couldn't update the hand controller software despite several attempts and various cables, it just wouldn't connect.
More importantly, we were able to connect directly to the Skywatcher control box via USB and update to the latest firmware.
