Astro events and happenings

Guys.

I need a few links to a few websites which give comprehensive lists of what's heppening in the sky from night to night, from month to month.

Things like conjunctions, which constellations are best positioned for that particular time etc etc

I've been given a really exciting opportunity to be involved with an astro segment on TV...but my field of expertise is more in planetary imaging than visual.

I need something which helps me plan ahead (recording schedules) for things to recommend people to look for in the sky.

I suspect I'll be doing the same thing - surfing the net, and using all the usual tools of research: planisphere, planetarium software, astro mags, books, charts etc etc

Sounds Great Matt, the "Heavens Above" website might be helpful. If I see anything else that might help I'll pass it on to you.

There is a program called Occult V.3 that will give you things like predictions for luna occultations, ephemerids for mutual events, eclipses etc. That might help out. Then you could always use Jupiter 2.0 for GRS transits. You also have Heavens-above for iridium flares (tend to be very localized) and ISS and Hubble transits. And of course you then have the good ol' Astronomy 2007.

You may not find them all in one place, but they are out there.

I find this book invaluable it's a must-have for amateur astronomers.
It has all the years astro-viewing forecast listed (unless theres are some new discoveries) and there is a new chapter for each month it's great!

I have starry night pro plus 6, it has an events tab that you can open and it will tell you all the up and coming events in your area. Plus, it's a pretty neat planetarium software, well worth the money. You can even make quick time movies of the events with this software but I think if you were going broadcast these you would need permission.

Nope. Haven't needed it up to now, although I did buy the 2006 edition.

I use it all the time and even bookmark major events throughout the year so I don't miss them.
