Hi,

Bought this used some years ago for remote use...never happened. Been in the shed ever since.

It is an older version with plastic rollers, but otherwise looks identical to the latest ones. Looks to be all there and, although the dome paint and the weather seals need work, is in sound condition. With 5 bays, you could store a lot of equipment safely and securely.

You can find details of the XL5 at https://skyshedpod.com/?v=e4b09f3f8402 The attached images show the pod on the lawn for cleaning and in the shed. It is bulky and will need a fairly large trailer to transport (I think I used an 8x6 with cages to get it here), but it is light in weight.

From the POD assembly video at https://skyshedpod.com/skyshedpodassemblyvideo/?v=e4b09f3f8402 the set of fixings is complete (apart from a damaged “L” seal and seal trims).

- 8x dome bolts
- 12x wall bolts
- 2x pivot bolts
- 15x guide bracket bolts
- 5x guide brackets (really only need 3 according to video)
- 3x quick release clamps and bolts for a DIY zenith table (this is an extra from the standard https://skyshedpod.com/product/quick-release-brackets/?v=e4b09f3f8402 )
- 2x lock knobs
- 2x door keys - locking mechanism works fine
- set of roller plates (still in place on dome)
- “L” seal screws and washers

The main “L” seal is damaged and there were no trim brackets that hold the seal. A replacement “L” seal is available from the manufacturer for $75US https://skyshedpod.com/product/l-rubber-seal/?v=e4b09f3f8402 and I have made up some trim brackets (although a photo on the website shows the seal installed without any brackets). In addition, the thick foam weather seals are old and probably need to be replaced. The manufacturer has these available for $70US https://skyshedpod.com/product/black-foam-rubber/?v=e4b09f3f8402

With the replacement seals, the whole setup would be complete and as functional as a new one.

Hi

Had a query re heat transfer into the pod and if it had any insulation. It doesn't have insulation and I had painted the dome white on the assumption that this would be needed to reduce solar heating.

To test this, I scraped one of the dome sectors back to the original light grey LLDPE plastic so that I could actually measure how effective white paint is cf the original finish.

I laid the unpainted dome sector (outer side up) alongside a white painted sector on the same region of lawn and let them soak in the sun for an hour or so. The air temperature was 23C with a light breeze and the lawn grass under the dome sectors settled at about 26C.

The unpainted dome sector heated up to an astonishing 51C on the outside and 34C on the underside (8C above the ambient grass) - quite a lot of solar heat was absorbed and transferred through the original dome material.

The white painted sector hardly absorbed any solar heat, only reaching a mild 31C on the outside and staying at ~26C on the underside - the same temp as the grass.

So the white paint is a very effective insulator against solar heating, suggesting that equipment in the painted dome should stay close to ambient temps in summer. Not tested, but the exterior of the bays and walls would probably also need to be painted for best results.
