8 x 10 minutes at ISO 1600 with an Astronomik H alpha filter
ED 80/canon 300 D (modified)
location-far from dark back yard in Winston Hills, NSW
used Deep Sky Stacker for registering and stacking images-love how easy it is to use-as also the price (free) :)
just two days past full moon but that's when the narrow band filters come into their own
its for objects like these that I sometimes wish I had more aperture..but in the meantime this is the best I can do :)
comments and suggestions welcome
thanks for looking !

An excellent image - this H alpha portrait is really nice. Is there also a more common name for this NGC object? It looks like it should have one.
Cheers

Dennis, I don't believe this object has a common name-or at least I am not aware of one - not unusual for deep southern objects I suppose

Awhh, that's a pity. I was looking forward to seeing it described by some enchanting classical name, as it looks such a beautiful object.

Wow! Nice! ;)
Top image Narayan, I'm hooked on these H alpha images they bring up so much detail.
I'm with Ken, it certainly looks like a skeletal foot.
