My 16 year old 10” Dob is showing signs of wear in the rockerbox, moisture in the mdf but above all I think the scatter in the mirror is too much. It got cleaned gently occasionally but the coating are gone now. Anew mirror with shipping from the US is 933 aud from Agena. Probably best to strip the finder and bit off and put it on the verge and get a new one about 1200 Aud. I would welcome any opinions on this.

Hi Col
Depending on the condition of everything else, consider getting it recoated.

I recently had an 10" mirror, that was in a similar condition to yours, recoated for less than half your quoted cost from the USA. If the tube , focuser secondary are still in reasonable condition , why not buy some plywood and make a new base and rocker box . If you can use a few basic tools it is not hard, doesn't have to be pretty, just serviceable and will save you some money.

Thankyou for your replies.
I could indeed make a new rockerbox etc. There is a time factor and a queue of jobs for my woodworking time, but it is certainly an option.
I have sought a quote to have the mirror recoated.
I probably should look at a new secondary too I suppose.
I will see how the costs balance.
