I re-discovered the original RAW files for this image on an old external hard drive and given the weather
decided to spend some time to combine some vintage data with a 32 core
processor and some very contemporary software.

I used mainly Pixinsight armed with a few of Russ Croman's new plugins and have to say
am very pleased with the result from my "Chicken Coop" observatory
located at the awesome altitude of...wait for it... 300 feet AMSL.

I hope you enjoy the view here (http://www.atscope.com.au/BRO/gallery602.html)

 that's a violation. ;)

Amazing detail Peter,
it looks like a 1 arc second resolution picture.

cheers
Allan

Thanks guys...1 arc sec resolution? Nah....the best I ever see is about 1.8.

I did do a roll-over image to see how this stacked up against a well promoted and lofty site
and was bemused to see the stellar footprints of my data were half that.

Not bad from a chook shed in the 'burbs.

"Superior seeing" at altitude in Oz I think is wishful thinking at best.....the real problem I have is 200mm of coastal rain in under a day.

The data set was definitely worth the revisit Peter. I can see that a lot of thought has gone into the processing in terms of colour and detail

Ah! ...I suspect you picked up on the O-type stars being a tinge blue. (they are rather hot after all)

Many thanks.... I'd also note you have a discerning and skilled eye

Peter, I always love your images. This one is no exception. The level of detail (especially in those thin structures) combined with those processing skills produce some very nice results.

Lovely detail revealed Peter. Expertly processed as per usual.

Thanks, I'm glad you enjoyed the view. With brighter objects like Eta,
I've found urban imaging can produce excellent results (earlier versions of this dataset won a Malin and received a NASA APOD gong)
There is even a body of opinion that suggests aerosols actually improve the seeing by homogenizing the air.
Indeed my best solar images happen when there is
a shallow morning fog.

Faint structures however, are best revealed under dark and transparent skies....hence my search for a remote dark site continues....

Nice Peter.

As it happens I know of a site with cheap rates? ;) It will be cheaper than buying a property and doing a build. :P They would even let you visit the site to see your gear. :) Though the main thing would the dark, clear and still skies.

Aaahhh ... an astrophotography restomod! Can't argue with that - veerrry impressive! Although, I think you should dump that aging Aluna on some poor unsuspecting astronomer who lives under dark but perpetually cloudy skies!

Ah...yes..the Alluna it's probably old enough to be going to high school soon.

Like kids, they become way more expensive as time goes by....even I admit the current sticker price is a little eye-watering.

Don't mention the weather, I think I mentioned it once, but got away with it. :D

I'm not averse to the idea...but how to sell it to the one that must be obeyed.

Another superb image Peter, almost 3 D. Cant wait to try out my CDK 14 on Eta Carinae (if the skies ever clear) from my humble portable gazebo observatory at 80ft elevation. Also keen to try out the new image processing tools which seem to be a game changer.

Ta Luke.

While narrow field imaging seems to either be out of fashion or uncommon,
as it places much higher demands on imaging systems
(read: too hard )

I'd expect your new kit to deliver excellent results....

and remember: Don't mention the weather :)

Beautiful deep view of this object. Love it.

Thanks Craig. I guess it's also a demonstration that an urban backyard can produce imagery that's not too shabby after all :)

Awesome detail in this one, Peter.
Russell's plugins are spectacular! It's like having brand new data to play with.
