Scan the sky equipment ???

Hello Chaps
This is what Im thinking
I would to install a video camera or camcorder must have big chip to gather the night sky to scan the scan every night.
As im very interested catching meteorites and other stuff.
Any idea what to start with I have tried other equipment digital camera but limited to battery power. Also once I have the footage from night before would need a software scan program to search for anomalies is their such a thing.

There are many simple designs available.
