Thor's helmet revision

This has been a nightmare with clear evenings then clouds rolling in about midnight so in total 3 nights with only in total 4 hours of acquisition.
I extracted the HA03 in mono to use this as a luminance layer then used the HA03 colour version to do the rest.

All in Astropixel processor for stacking and extraction, then in pixinsight for blur ex and noise xtermnation followed by Generalised hyperbolic stretch then in Photoshop to complete the work.

I think combining processing steps from the different processing suites has some advantages as you tend to use the best attributes from all of them.

Yes the quality and detail between an IIS 200KB image to say a 1.5MB Astrobin image is chalk and cheese

There are many Thor images in the various user galleries on Astrobin, and you can search for them. Obviously different people use different techniques, cameras, filters, software etc and it is interesting to compare their approaches and results ( read the Tech notes). Also I find the Histogram a useful tool, as there is just no substitute for adequate data. In the end, it sometimes comes down to artistic interpretation, because there is no perfect setup, equipment, capture, or processing technique ( although people will argue about that (on forums) until the cows come home). People on Astrobin are usually very supportive and helpful, I find.

Looks great. I like the dusty look of the first version (which is a bit more even in the background) although the second version highlights parts of the surrounding clouds a bit more. There’s a lot of great stuff to see in the central area so I wonder if a crop would help narrow the focus a bit? Still wonderful to see :-)
