Collimating with a 1.25in laser

Thinking of getting a new laser that’s 1.25in like the one I have now. Is there a disadvantage to getting a 1.25in laser for a dob that has a 2in focuser with a 2in to 1.25in adapter?

The one I have came with the scope and it’s a bit out of collimation itself. I’m assuming the higher end lasers always stay in collimation?

Hi mate. I use a cheshire collimator instead of a laser. I think it's easier and pretty accurate Easily used in the daytime as well. Cheaper than a laser as well. But to answer your question a laser will work fine in 11/4 inch adapter. There is no guarantee it won't need collimation itself though.

I soley use newts for observing and imaging at f5 , 6” to 12”
I’ve always used a Cheshire and a Laser , one to check the other
If the Laser is collimated correctly it normally doesn’t need touching unless you drop it etc…
I usually start with the Cheshire to get close and then pop the laser for fine tuning
Hasn’t let me down in over 5 years
