View Full Version here: : Lightweight dew shield for C11
Have started fabricating a dew shield + tube insulator out of Ametalin insulation(Bunnings). My celestron 9.25”/11” dew shield weighs 800g whereas my partly completed non flocked dew shield + tube insulator weighs only 280g. Have enclosed pics of my progress, regard philip

Looks like foam sandwiched with reflective foil. Should work very well. Darkening inner surface before the corrector plate would be your next job.

I've seen a number of insulated setups, both newts & refractors. Is it useful/effective? What's the main purpose behind doing it - just to achieve a relatively constant tube temp?
Cheers,

Hi All
Philip - looks good, I used something similar from Clark Rubber, it was silver on just the one side.
Mark - my understanding is that insulating the tube reduces heat flow, which reduces/eliminates tube currents.

Thanks Philip. Had some insulated foam laying around in the garage for years, will think about putting it into use.
Cheers,
Mark
Finished product with black felt. I have made a similar one to the celestron DX C’9.25-C11 dew shield not shown in the pictures. Mine weighs in at 220 grams whereas the celestron weighs in at 800 grams. This material is very light yet strong.

Been wanting a Dew shield for my C925. May have to consider making one like yours.

Nice job. What did you use to stick the felt on with, given that contact adhesive tends to give off fumes that can settle on things?
It was a self adhesive felt material I bought on eBay. Regards philip

Ahh, that makes sense, I'm still stuck in the world of volatile contact adhesives (probably what's scrambled my brain cells, along with too much alcohol in my long-ago youth).

Hi
I suspect the black felt is a better black than the black rubber I have inside mine. I should probably add some.

Hi Philip, nice job on the insulation. Which particular Ametalin product did you use? There are quite a few on their web site. I can't tell which product has silver on both sides.
Thanks for posting your project.
