Moon with Barlow trial

I had to give it a go!

The fog was already rolling in but I was determined to try my Barlow.

Here is my very first Moon shot!

5:30pm

12" Dobbie
2" GS 30mm SuperView Barlowed to 15mm
Kodak Easyshare CX7310 3.2MP digital Pocket Camera

I really believe I need a much better camera Paul. (or less fog!)

I also took one unbarlowed at 30mm but the fog was too much by then. I will stick it in here anyway to show you what I have to look through most nights.

Looks very eiry, I actually like this one from an artistic point of view. From satellite images of the Earth Moon system this browny colour is how this looks from space.

Looks like you got the 4 big guys -- Langrenus, Vendelinus, Petavius (one of my favorites) and Furnerius along the terminator.

Sorry Steve but I've never heard of them. Are they different names for Io, Ganymede, Callisto and Europa?

No..I'm referring to you shot of the Moon at top. Boy..if we renamed the 4 big Jovian moons we'd certainly cause some confusion!

The Joop shot I took back in Feb on a borrowed camera was better but no fog then. I fairly happy with moon shot as it is my first!

Nice work Ken, you're on your way. It looks like you got some reflections from the lights on the camera in the second shot.. you could try taping over the lights.

What settings are adjustable on the camera? ISO? Shutter speed? Focal ratio? Exposure compensation?

Did you handhold the shot? I'm sure with your DIY skills you'll be able to make yourself an adapter no problems.

off to a good start. make a mounting bracket and off you go :)
try more magnification, keep the exposure time low and the iso high :)

I am working on the next level now... my old webcam attached to k3ccd on my lap top. the problem i am getting is that the webcam is focusing on the reflection of the secondary...

any way to fix this peeps?

This camera doesn't have a lot of features. Zoom! and thats it. No longer exposures that I know of yet.

Yes Mike, they where taken hand-held. I am going to make a bracket this weekend.

I intend to use higher magnification but these pics where taken in a hurry to beat the fog and a quick test of my new Barlow.

I am patiently waiting for a clear sky so I can give things a proper test.

I will plod along and do what I can with the camera I have for a while. At least I enjoyed the 3 minutes sky I did get!
