Need a barlow for solar imaging

I currently have a Celestron 2x barlow which I screw onto the camera nosepiece directly and works a treat.

I am looking at trying a 3x or even 5x. I have a Bintel 3x Barlow but for some reason it cannot be screwed onto the nosepiece as the threads are wider. Tried the 5x Svbony barlow as well but there is no lens section that can be unscrewed as it's part of the entire housing.

Does anyone know any other brand I can purchase to give this a go?

Did your camera not come with a 1.25” nosepiece/T2 adapter? Use it and screw onto camera and just insert into Barlow as you would an eyepiece. If you have a filter wheel it has the same adapter that you could remove and use with the camera.

If you have some filter spacers you could increase the distance from the Barlow lens to the camera nosepiece and hence increase the amplification.


The TV Powermates x2.5 and x5 come with a t thread adaptor which can be used to mount onto the camera.
The Explore Scientific x3 unit unfortunately only has a 1.25" fitting.
As an alternative to the Powermates I also use the Baader Hyperion x2.25 Barlow with a T thread.

I screw the lens bit of the barlow onto the end of the 1.25" nosepiece which works a treat. The Bintel 3x Barlow I have, it can unscrew but it cannot screw onto the 1.25" nosepiece as it appears to be wider even though it is 1.25"

Yeah,
The "standard" 28mm eyepiece filter thread seems anything BUT standard.


Put some pressure on Bintel??
Otherwise borrow a couple of Barlows and see which ones do fit. Also try different nosepieces chances are they also have different threads!!
Been there.....that's why generally I use T thread fittings.

I sent Bintel a message but no reply.

I had a few different nosepieces but still no luck. The diametre is wider but only by a fraction.

I had exactly the same issue making "adaptors" for the Paton Hawksley Star Analyser grating - this has what I'd call "standard" 28mm filter threads, unfortunately many camera to 1.25" nosepieces were not standard!


(The situation was even worse finding T thread adaptors to fit ALL the T thread options available. PITA!! I had to manufacture a series of specials and finally said enough is enough - the BAADER T Thread is the official standard.)

I might sell the 3x I got and try to source one I can use.

While placing an order with B&H today, I believe I saw a. Baader adapter that fulfills your needs. Scan through the Baader list.
