I've just come by a second-hand Saxon 10" Newtonian and while the optics and construction are good the focuser is not. Is anyone aware of a bolt-on crayford style replacement unit (ie no drilling or tube surgery necessary) available anywhere?

There is an Orion branded crayford which I believe fits their intelliscope range.
The Orion/Skywatcher/saxon scopes use the same hardware I think and it might pay to chase this up.

I've been looking at upgrading my focuser on the old 8" Newt.
Came across these sites but haven't progressed to actually getting one.
Might end up getting a whole new OTA .... eventually.

If you really want to "upgrade" I can highly recommend the Moonlight brand crayford focusers from the US...
Although not cheap, they are very nice and buttery smooth (I have two of them on different telescopes). Shipping was fast and no hassles from the US to Australia...
Ron at Moonlight is really helpful via e-mail and does have a variety of "adapter" kits that depending on your scope may or may not require drilling holes...I don't recall from memory if Saxon is one of them with a "kit" or not...
You can check out their website...
Anyway, the Moonlight focuser is a winner in my book...

Hi Stephen,
I did a thread here on IIS on fitting a crayford to a 10"Saxon a little while ago but dont know how to attach a web link. If you do a search and type in; 10:1 crayford on Saxon you will find it.
Hope this helps.
Cheers Daniel.
