Mars had an apparent diameter of 16 arc seconds last night - what are the chances of this happening?

Egad!
Your luck appears to be about on par with mine. You're correct - what are the chances? Talk about rolling the dice...

That's extraordinary.
Last week I saw 5 or 6 satellite trails while I was polar aligning (with PoleMaster) but that was over a period of ~30 mins.

We should be able to win Tattslotto with odds like this :)

Certainly is extraordinary. In the future its going to be more extraordinary if you can take a 3 minute sub without a satellite. We were looking through some subs from the other night and 6 out of 30 of them had satellite trails.

Thanks David.
The video is slowed down to 1/6 speed so while we were actually watching live it happened so quickly that it just looked like Mars disappeared for a moment or too and then came wobbling back like in extreme bad seeing.

Passenger in the window seat, Aisle 24, was looking straight at you...
I've has jets go through M42 a couple of times, that's on extended exposures- much better odds of being photobombed!
What was your frame rate?

We have been photo bombed a few times now but this is by far the narrowest FOV. Our frame rate was 150FPS with 6ms exposures.

Direct hit! Looks like the plane was at high altitude, too, which makes the alignment more impressive.
