Sorry for yet another M42 but this was only 30 minutes of 10 second subs and I thought it worth another thread.
RASA 11 EQ8 MOUNT. ZWO 2600 OSC Startools photoshop.
I went thru my10 second stuff and removed the subs that were not perfect..when I realised I only had 30 minute I thought there was no point in going on..I am glad I did now see just what that I see what that scope can do in 30 minutes.
edit..forgot haze removal so the second one is haze removed

30 mins? I'm starting to think the RASA is cheating. Well done sir.

I only spent three hours in Photoshop but no cheating...what you see is pretty much how it came out of StarTools.
There was stuff in the top left I had to darken as it destroyed the balance which made me feel uncomfortable.
But the facts are 10 second subs and 30 minutes worth delivered an image that I am happy with and this and some other stuff I have been experimenting with tells me that less is more...if only I knew what I was doing it would be so much easier.

Alex,
RASA, 2600MC , Startools , dark skies , a great combo
Incredible image with so much depth and detail for only 30mins with extremely short subs
Trap is well defined and resolved
Well done indeed !!

"If only I knew what I was doing..." HA! You can't fool me - it's fairly obvious from where I'm sitting that you've got a pretty good idea of what you're doing. Nice bit of work indeed!

When I say I don't know what I am doing I am referring to not understanding so much of the procedure in processing...in StarTools I really do not have a clue what is going on but fortunately with StarTools you mostly accept the default settings for a good result and often the best result.
The only tools I use in Photoshop are "hue and satuartion" to help with colour, brightness and contrast, dodge and burn tools, the rubber tool and I can layer two images ...that's about it.
Anyways I am learning slowly it is just that at times as I said I feel as if I really don't know what I am doing....and what has become apparent is the more you learn the more you realise there is just so much more to cover.
And when I started out you took maybe a 5 minute exposure and manually guided the scope then "processed" in photo shop which consisted of playing with the brightness and contrast and sharpening the image and that was it...and with the crappy mounts I started with the results were not very exciting.
Thanks again to all for your kind and encouraging words.

I never knew there was so much detail in the dust and gas around Orion... For "only" 30 minute of data, that's one impressive scope to capture it so well.
Hat's off to you, Alex.
