I always naively thought you couldn't see M31 from Oz but PeterK set me straight, cheers Pete. Ever since I've grabbed 5 mins here and there (because of my observing position) in osc. The other week I decided I'd better setup where I intended putting the obs and actually check the views :screwy: Managed a few hours of mono instead of a few minutes between trees. I thought I'd already posted this but xelasnave prompted me and after giving it a quick process himself gave me some ideas, cheers Alex! Given the contribution of Ha I don't know whether it was worth so much time but it's all learning to me :)

Great looking images John. How much time does M31 spend above the horizon at your location? It doesn’t get much above 14° here in the ACT - stays really low - and is visible for only a few short hours.

Mate, you're way to modest. It was your great effort that inspired me to try harder - thank you! I still think yours has a lot better detail, core notwithstanding ;p



Thanks Warren, the first time I saw it, between the trees, took my breath away. I knew I had to move the rig someplace better but I am learning and keeping the rig within hobbling distance was necessary. Finally I was confident enough to leave the rig unattended.

Cheers Alex. That was 4 hours, 8:30-12:30 and by that time we were at about 10° and the star count was a lead balloon. The highest it got was about 22°.

Yes I am too modest that's for sure ..my humility is just part of me so there is little I can do..

I tried to work on the core but things did not go as I wanted unfortunately and all of a sudden I got bored and went off to play guitar...

But your subs are really first class..I look at your subs then look at mine and I feel I should give the game away...your dedication to details has me wondering if such an approach actually has merit.

So what else have you got?

I tried it last Saturday on a dark site and while I could see it on the screen, the wind was that bad that I had to throw out many subs.

Thanks Alex, you are far too kind. I'm a "first principles" learner generally, get the fundamentals right and the rest will follow, in theory anyway :lol: I'd rather throw away a night or two than try and "fix" it in post.

I might have a Triangulum somewhere. I really need to store/sort my data by target then date rather than the other way around. Your expression/question reminds me of the "Ya'll got an more of them pixels" meme :lol:



Thanks Wilsil, what a shame. I can only off the advice I was given: short exp at least give you less overall time culled. I almost always do 30s for this exact reason. Granted stacking can be a bit of a chore, relatively. Also, high(er) gain and short subs get reasonable results in less than perfect conditions, check out my high gain experiments for example, they were done in very poor seeing.
