Hi, I'm looking to upgrade to a triplet.

I'm tossing up between a Skywatcher Esprit 100 and an Askar Fra 500.

I was wondering if anyone had any experience with either or could suggest a different but similar spec scope.

I shoot with an AA+ and 2600mcp.

Thanks!

I have the SkyWatcher Esprit 120 and can't fault it. With the field flattener, it has beautifully round stars right to the corners, so I would presume the 100 would be the same. Haven't used the Askar telescopes so can't comment on those I'm afraid.

How about this as an alternative:

Not helpful at all, but amusing:

when I allowed my browser to search the photo in the link, it showed me starter motors as the prime match.

So much for the Bing AI!

Back on track, it is a nice looking scope.

Looks pretty sweet! I think I'm leaning towards the fra 500, mostly for the portability

If the price is close, go for the Esprit. It’s been out a bunch of years, has a proven track record.

Askar have some interesting products but their quality control seems a bit hit and miss, and some products are haunted by blue halos.

In full disclosure, I’ve been imaging with my Esprit for 7 years now.

Thanks for the advice everyone - I decided to try out a 150/750 Newt. I want to try out Newtonians before I commit to a premium refractor. I'm excited to be done with CA.
Cheers!

Though others may ague the toss, for we mere mortals the best value and highest astrophotography outcome is delivered via a quality triplet.
People with far greater expertise may disagree but a triplet is KISS, keeping it simple.
