View Full Version here: : What do you want for Christmas?

Christmas is not far off and as it will be an expensive affair so one better start planning around about now.
Traditionally it is a time where not only do we give gifts to others but we also give ourselves a gift or two that would at other times of the year seem like sheer extravagance.
Now all I want is world peace and prosperity to all those humans who have been doing it tuff as I used all my Christmases earlier this year...but...what do you want?....and your reply does not have to be reasonable or humble and if you wish be totally greedy that is entirely acceptable or you can share your plans for some reasonable even modest astro purchases ...and if you have not thought of the opportunity that Christmas presents for personal gift giving now is your chance to capitalise.
Actually thinking more perhaps I could go for a fully astro decked out camper van with a built in observatory and work station with hydraulic rams that extend to stabilise the whole thing when you arrive at that distant clear, dry and dark site...on Christmas day.

That's an easy one for me - a good-sized block of land with dark skies, where I can have an off-grid house, build an observatory and raise/grow my own food.

The way the weather has been here lately, I'll take even just one clear night.

CLEAR SKIES for three months
the end!
Happiness and peace to all, especially those who have suffered great loss from the floods, and all those people overseas that only want peace in their lives.:)
As for me I don't need anything, I have all that I need, and my Alice.

A Christmas song duet with my oldest grand daughter, her on the Cello and me on guitar, and the younger ones singing "Silent Night". That will do me. You guys have covered the big stuff.

Celebrating with Family , kids and grandkids
Good health
Wishing for a reprieve from floods and bushfires for those who have lost family and homes in the past 3 years
A few clear nights won’t go astray either but not a priority

I'll wish for getting social media under the same controls that already exist for printed and televised media...
The personal wish, I wish for a spherical mirror, and hopefully the understanding of "zonal errors: manual manipulation of zones and radius of curvature offset" and a decent lap medium to work with.

As my father was wont to say, peace and contentment.
Failing that, I'll settle for clear skies (and maybe a 2" Televue Barlow...)

The usual - peace on earth, honest ethical politicians etc, none of which is likely to happen.
So to cheer myself up I bought a scope - SVBony SV503 80mm F7 doublet. Over 95% of reviews I found were extremely positive about it. Not available at their Australian store, around $1,000 from the Chinese store but I found it for $584 on Amazon (Black Friday sale).
Happy Christmas Dikman.:D

Totally agree but ephemeral
Can’t argue with item no. 2
I have the 4.7mm SX , 8mm , 13mm and the hand grenade 21mm , oh and the Apollo 11, more than just eye pieces , precision high quality optical instruments
Item no. 3
I settled for the 12” Goto dob , great all round scope
Item no. 4
Maybe one day
Played it as a kid in the 60’s but don’t follow it later in life
Cheers

Yeah, I'm feeling pretty happy about it. I'll probably need to get the reducer/flattener too, but that's only available in the US /China so I'll hang off on that for now. As I've (slowly) learned more I realised the Celestron 102 will be ok for visual but woefully inadequate for astro. I've been watching the classifieds but people are asking too much for scopes that aren't new so figured I might as well buy new. I was expecting to pay more than I did for a 70-size scope but when I came across this offer it was too good to pass up.
Ho ho ho.:)

For me, something like a RCOS 16" and Paramount ME would be a good start. ;)

And not to run across "Love Actually" on TV,.
But I will happily watch the classic Christmas movies, like "Miracle on 34th Street", but admittedly you need to be a certain vintage to appreciate that, definitely not a Gen Z thing.
I will wish for more Christmas time with my grand daughters, and our family band.
I agree, good health for yourself and you loved ones would be top of the list.
