Is 35mm to wide for lightning photography

Hi Guys, I have been doing some Lightning Photography of late using 50-70mm lenses with good results.

I was considering using a 35 mm lens for some wide angle shots, so was just wondering is 35mm a bit wide, or should i just stick with my trusted 50mm and occasionally 70mm lenses.

Your opinion would be most appreciated, thank you.

I don’t think it is too wide Leon.
Certainly not on a crop camera or even
on a full frame camera.
I’d just make sure you have a nicely framed background,
to ensure the photo is more interesting.

Agree with Andrew, it's all about the framing. I used to take lightning shots with a Canon 30D and 17-40mm (equivalent to 27-64mm). When storms are off in the distance it's good to be able to zoom in a bit but when the storm is getting closer you probably need a wider angle. I reckon most of my shots were at the 17mm (27mm equivalent) setting.

Thank you, for your responses, I have never imaged lightning at anything less than 50mm, so I will give this a try.
I didn't actual give the background a thought either, but that dose make sense.;)
