I decided to focus on a different aspect of the eclipse this time: the huge drop in sky brightness during the event:

A 4-hour timelapse with the camera set for totality, hence the overexposed start & finish. 6D & SigmArt 14 f/1.8

Observing this visually with the 4" f/11 ED and a 40mm widefield EP was a real treat. There was an aurora as well, noticeable from about 50% coverage onwards.

Enjoyed the video, highlights the changing brightness overall. Would like to watch a slower version as this one goes too quickly to really take in everything that is happening in different parts of the sky.

Cool, but a bit slower would be good.

Thanks guys

The speed itself is a document of my setup (shortfalls). I have one working battery left for the 6D and the mains power battery adaptor decided to crap out, so the mains power bluetti couldn't be used to power the camera. Result: I decided my best shot at capturing the full 4 hours with one battery was to halve the frame number (one every 40s as opposed to 20s) and to wrap the camera in a dew strap and my spare beanie. It worked, but the vid is on the fast side as a result.

It's not as smooth, but try viewing with the playback speed at 0.5 or 0.75

What a great idea and a really interesting video. The difference in light in our backyard between totality and when the shadow had moved off again was very marked.

Thanks Clare & Peter. I've always found the change in illumination during total eclipses (both lunar and solar) fascinating.

Nice perspective Mirko, I did enjoy it better at 1/2 speed, Good stuff
