Lunar eclipse: How and when to watch Tuesday's blood moon in Australia

"For instance, moonrise in Brisbane is at 6.01pm so the Moon will have been in the sky for more than an hour before the eclipse starts," Dr Hill told ABC News.
"Whereas in more southern places, like Melbourne, for example, the Moon doesn’t rise until 7:53pm, so the Moon will be very low to the horizon."
It's not all amiss for those in southern states because a moon low to the horizon has the benefit of the 'moon illusion' which will make the lunar eclipse appear much larger due to its proximity to objects on the horizon.

Just looked - I can't see it -
it's behind buildings - it's so low on the horizon from Melbourne.
At least I have Stellarium.

It's looking really good from here in Millicent. Quite red and nearly total now
Cheers, Richard

I saw your pics Allan. Nice job. Glad you got to see it. It was the best lunar eclipse I've seen. Mostly because I'm usually clouded out but the weather here now is perfect. Warm, windless and clear.
Cheers, Richard

Thanks - it was mostly cloudy but I waited till
it cleared and ran outside with
a tripod and Canon DSLR using a 300mm telephoto lens.
At least I got something.

Here in the mid north of SA I thought I wouldn't be seeing it as the whole day was overcast. By 7pmish all had gone and a clear sky for the rest of the night. Was a wonderful sight the whole moon a deep dark red. No pictures but indelibly etched into my memory. :eyepop:
