Hi all
I used Houghys cooled 350D to take a 50mm widefield of Eta Carina
4x15 mins canon 50mm F1.8 stopped down to F5, with Idas uv/ir and Baader UHC-S filters on front. Sensor temp 1.5 degrees.
Full res. version here

Then put on to the mount the 10 inch f5.6 scope, did M83
Idas uv/ir filter, mpcc coma corrector, 15 x5 mins ISO400, sensor temp round 3 degrees. Larger version here

The darks in this camera are amazing, they look like offsets, that is , a 15 minute dark looks like a 1/400th sec offset shot, as theres no noise to speak of. Its an amazing bit of gear

Ive applied no noise reduction software to it as yet, might try that tomorrow

Scott,
That Eta Carina Nebula widefield is amazing. Made me stop and stare at its beauty. One of the kings (or is that queens?) of the sky.
Well done.

Thanks for those magnificent images Scott and Houghy.
I can see 7 nebulae in the eta Car image, NGCs 3199, 3247, 3324, 3372, 3581 etc, 3603 and IC 2948 etc.
It is amazing to think that Lacaille discovered M83 with a 0.5" lens, but he never saw it like your image.

Hi Scott,
The picture of M83 is very good, the colour is perfect and detail excellent you can see the two small galaxies on the right side of M83 an indication of good resolution, The Carina wide field seems good in detail but all red in colour, wonder if this was done in processing, all in all good work Scott.

Howdy
Yes I stretched the colours in the Eta carina image, otherwise the stars seem to swamp the nebula a bit as theres so many of them :)
It was done in a hurry last night might be able to tweak it some more

Nice M83 there Scott!!....I like the color balance better than in my last go at it!..Well done...
the widefield is a nice shot too.....but like Jim says a little on the red side....
I always do the same also....I post after a very quick process in PS only to look again later and see what I have not done the image quiet right...usually after 3 goes I`m happy with it..
Had a play with the widefield with the levels.....hope you don`t mind Scott..would still need more tweeking....
Cheers

OK Mr Alder has the camera until next weekend, after that its back in my possession.
Scott has produced some wonderful and breathtaking images with the camera and I must commend him on his efforts for the great shots.
He is indeed a good Astrophotographer, I only hope one day that I may be up to a 10th of his standard. His bar is very very high but he is willing and happy to help mugs like me.
But moreover, he is more than happy to TEST my gear.........

Just had a go at masking, by processing the M83 image bright, and masking it with the same image but processed so only the brightest parts are seen. Scott

great shots scott. really like the m83 but i prefer the non-masking as it looks more natural. did u use gausian blur and levels on the mask?

Thanks all. I shot it back on the 11th.
Yes I used Gausian Blur on the mask , but left Levels as they were on the mask.
