What to use to stick Secondary Dew Heater?

Hi all,

I bought a Kendrick secondary mirror dew heater, the split kind, and wondering what the best method of sticking it to the secondary mirror is. It would be nice to one day be able to get it off again if needed without damaging anything, and also to know that whatever material i use will transfer the heat to the mirror.

I haven't had the need, but, what about double sided thermal transfer tape, something like this (https://www.jaycar.com.au/thermal-transfer-tape-100x100x0-5mm-pk-2/p/NM2790)?

Also wondering if anyone uses silicone, and if so is there a particular kind, or anything else?

I suspect silicon would be a poor choice. It would act as a thermal insulator, preventing the heat from getting to the mirror.


Mind you, if you held the parts together, then applied a bead around the outer edge, it would probably hold together well enough. After putting the bead on, use a bit of tape to hold the parts together, remove the tape when the silicon has fully cured.


The advantage of the thermal tape, is that is will close up the gaps between the heater element and the back of the mirror, and really help the heat transfer through.

It might have come with a foam sticky pad that you can cut to size and place over the dew heater, essentially sandwiching it between the foam and the glass.

It must came with regular foam, that i need to attach myself. I ended up buying Thermal Glue so will see how it goes.
