Hello everyone! can someone tell me where i can buy a hardcase for my nexstar 8i here in australia? coz if i had to buy from overseas, postage would just kill me. Any ideas where i can buy an affordable one? or even a used one? Thanks!

I've had a look at one of these for my 12" LX200GPS. I have to say that I was impressed with the quality - even down to the welded (rather than cheaply rivetted) seams and decent wheels, handles, etc.
They aren't cheap though - around a thousand bucks for the one I wanted. I suppose that one for an 8" scope should be significantly cheaper.
I saw then at Astronomy Online

I'm also looking into what's available to transport my 8" scope. It was suggested to me to check out Bunnings for some suitable cases and then go to Clark Rubber to get some foam and just cut it out myself. I haven't had a chance to get to Bunnings to see what they have and how much they are but I suspect it will work out much cheaper than buying something commercially.

If you are going to do that, just make sure you get the correct foam, suitable for cameras and lens, the cheap stuff can outgas and coat your optics with a film.

Have a look at super cheap auto they have some neat alluminium tool boxes not cheap (up to $400 from recollection) but they are robust.
I made a great case using the box a scope came in (cardboard) and layered it up with much newspaper and it was very strong and painted was great.
I used flour for the glue and the bush rats demolished it... next one I do I am using wall paper glue ... the good thing about this method is you can build in little cardboard draws inside, and form up supports by papering over the foam supports that come with the box/scope... if you want it tuffer coat it with resin..real tuff add a layer of glass matt.

Try astronomyonline.com.au
Glen and Angela make some great cases to custom fit whatever scope. They are not cheap but do the job right and look great.
