Cool . Lots of detail.
Nice one Alex. Great detail! how many photons?

What they've already said - lots of detail and such a cool shape for a galaxy. :-)

Another good effort. I'm starting to get very envious of what you're achieving here, given the issues I'm having in getting off the ground. FIne work!

Thanks everyone...now I look at it this way..I am a mug but persistent and sooner or later things must come good....you know the more you practice the more good luck you have..if I had not stuck it all those nights where I near drowned in the dew I would have had more problems and not able to take advantage of a decent night.
The key seems a combination of the Asiair and dropping filters with the RASA.
Short exposures and lots of them and just hang on in there..
Now I need to start darks flats etc dither and get serious.

Alex,
Great capture of a dim Galaxy
Well done !!
After months of testing calibration, my 2600MC ( and I would assume the 2600MM too ) works best with flats and bias
I tried dark flats with flats but it didn’t correct the field or mitigate Vignetting
Flats and bias work perfectly
Maybe different for a refractor but for all my Newts , flats and bias just works
I also checked on Cloudy Nights and most folk use Flats and Bias
I use 40 flats and 60 Bias frames
Flats histogram is around 8500 to 34,000 ADU or up to half way
Flats without filter usually around 0.5 sec exposures
Flats with a dual band filter 5 to 7 sec exposures but no longer
Bias are set for shortest exposure for the 2600 series camera which is 0.000032 sec
Cheers

The vignettingbon the RASA is terrible but with a big sensor and an impatient nature a crop suits me ..m42 had little for whatever reason. And all the flats I have taken..around 20,000 just don't work for me..it is getting to the stage where I am prepared to blame my tools rather than my inability..But I dont know.. anyways I work around it...I actually do know all the fancy stuff behind imaging but I need too appear stupid to maintain the pity that I crave...Martin I really don't know about the flats with the RASA ..as I said I have learnt it all not that I could teachvanyone like you can but I have what consider a pretty good grasp..lime our lazy geek mate covered it well and there is just so much stuff when you go looking as I do...but I actually have a new system worked out for flats..I will take the focuser setting down..a note..and take time the next day..cause I will have the saw t focuser recorded..and temp.. and so I can trail various things and look for what direction to take...
But thank goodness the OSC came to my rescue as changing filters inn the RASA is just too tiresome to lutvup with..I am over it particularly when I can knobckmlur an m42 with 10 second subs ..who needs the hassle.
Thanks for talking about it as I do really take in everything you tell me and you are a fantastic help which I greatly appreciate.

Alex,
Thanks
What ever works best eliminates frustration and provides satisfaction
Unfortunately heavy cropping does reduce resolution in your images but only if you or others are pixel peeping
I’m just a fuss bum and squeeze everything I can an image especially if I’ve collected 4 to 6 hours worth
I’m glad the 2600MC is working well for you in that refractor
Keep them coming
Cheers

No the ZWO 2600 OSC Is on the RASA the mono ZWO2600MM will now go on the 115mm along with the RASA filters in a filter wheel that I have yet to order...I have had it with filter draws I will have 8 redundant ones...
I dont understand how resolution is reduced if cropped ..is it because you have a smaller image but giving it the area of the original photo?
Another thing I have not been binning these heavily cropped images.
Anyways at some stage it will all come together..the additional Asiair plus units have been shipped..I am not tracking them however that would send me bats...and I need another FOCUSER and a filter wheel..computer is ready Tuesday as I did not pick it up so as to add a scratch drive...
I am gathering more data on NGC 1365 to test how the new machine stacks large numbers ..and at 3x drizzle..which I like to think helps...

Thanks Stephane. I gathered a little more data last night but the heavy dew and fog beat me unfortunately.

Alex,
Apologies for the mix up with cameras
Got it now
In regard to heavy cropping I should have said you lose resolution on the field of view not actual detail. The image quality does suffer a bit as you’ve effectively reduced the number of pixels ( PPI ) across the whole image, but in the case of a Galaxy where you just cropping black space it’s not that much of an issue as the main object is smallish in the centre frame.
Cheers
