Full res. Ha Eta Carina with cooled DSLR and 300mm lens

Hi all
Heres the full res version of the Ha Eta Carina test image, at Houghys request :) the first astro image Ive taken with Houghys cooled DSLR

2x10 mins, Idas uv/ir filter, Baader 7Nm Ha filter, 300mm f2.8 flourite lens, Cooled modded 350D sensor temp 5 degrees C. Poor transparancy.

Ahhh yes, but only two images produced with a cooled sensor means virtually no noise;)

Well if that is not the best cure for app fever I have seen.
Extraordinary... we need a new superlative to describe this one.
I can not get over the nebulosity and the detail of same.
Fantastic work fantastic gear.
Houghy can you point me to a thread showing your cooling set up.
A lot of beginners may not realise the relatively small size of this scope ...why would you want a giant 80ed I ask.
Brilliant, fantastic, marvellous to the power of ten.
Unbelievable optics ..everything really.
Is the WR bubble the round neb to the upper left?

a few weeks all up, I sent my own camera over to korea for the operation, and yes it is weighty now. must weigh it to tell you how much.

cost was around the 1500 AUS mark

Quite expensive ... but obviously a very good mod ... still makes for a cheap 8 megapixel camera. The dark frame comparison from previous postings is amazing and ofcourse the image on this thread is the proof of it's capability. Cheers !

yes it is a bit heavier, but Houghy also has the battery grip that holds 2 batteries. Juts a matter of re-balancing the mount and all is fine. There is absolutely no virebration from the cooling fan at all.
because the canon Cmos sensor is designed to operate at room temperature, whereas dedicated CCD astro cameras are not, it responds to cooling even moer so than an astro camera, dropping the temp to a few degrees sees thermal noise drop to virtually zero

He notes that at 6 degrees the canon has 1/10th the noise of a Sbig STL-11000M at 0 degrees.
