It was forecast that there would be a bit more time before the clouds rolled in today, but not enough to consider setting up for an animation. Also it was quite windy and the seeing was only average. So we decided to take a image with our usual double stack arrangement using the Daystar Solar Scout 60 and the Lunt 40 etalon and compare this with the Lunt 40 single stacked. It shows that the Lunt 40 is a pretty good instrument in its own right.

It depends on what you are particularly looking at as to whether double stacking shows more. For proms maybe not so much, but if you look at the filaments on the disk, they clearly stand out better double stacked.

May I ask - when you say you double stacked with the Lunt 40 etalon, which component is that? Is it the front etalon filter from the Lunt 40mm THa Solar Telescope adapted to mount to the front of the Solar Scout 60?

Yes we take the front 40mm etalon off the Lunt and attach it to the front of the Solar Scout 60. This has two effects.
a/ it double stacks the Solar Scout and b/ it reduces the aperture of the Solar Scout which counter intuitively is a very good thing as the Solar Scout is a poor performer due to too low a focal ratio.

I have the Daystar Solar Scout 60mm and I was always curious how it could be double stacked. Is that an adapter for the Lunt that slides over the front of the DSS? And if I could be a further sticky beak - is that a tilt adapter on the front of your camera or a filter holder?

No problems Ken.
The adapter we use slides into the front of the DSS. And yes that is a tilt adapter in front of the camera. It's a modified ZWO one. You definitely need this to get rid of Newton rings.
