#BREAKING It has been confirmed by the BOM that Australia has re-entered its third consecutive La Nina. This will increase the likelihood of above average rain and potential floods for eastern Australia, through spring into summer.

Gotta say I love all that rain and water. Everything is green, temperatures are mild. Take it while it lasts. O/S my relos are cooking in heat waves. I don't miss the heat one bit.

It's been so wet here my neighbour smsed me to ask if my tractor was bogged, because it hadn't moved for a few days. I'm the only one in our neighborhood who hasn't bogged.

If you look hard at a piece of ground here, it squirts water at you.

I've got leaks and mould in my observatory, if I close the lid the humidity goes up to over 80%, and I'm only operational about 1 day a fortnight.

My mentoring students are being forced to trawl the web for data to use in their project, lacking getting their own.

It's getting to the point I'd LOVE to see a Starlink train go over!

Well I am happy because I am getting various projects completed that I know would not happen if the sky was half decent...ever since I fixed the driveway to shed water and made passable the wet has eased for me...

I have installed the tri pier setup for the RASA which I have put off since day one...

At the moment I am setting up the winch drums to push and pull so I can save time and pain running out cable to various anchor points...it has taken me all morning but I have made a proto type thingy that should work and dug out some stainless steel cable...

I have ordered new wheels to make the roof roll easy.

And yesterday I ordered a Arduino to start learning about them so hopefully I can control the roof opening and closing from the van...maybe even with an Ardunio set it to open after I have gone to bed and let the Asiair take some subs....I will order a relay later today as I have at least learnt I will need a relay;)

With the weather the way it is I want to be able to open for a couple of hours if that's all I get..but the performance to open and close puts me off...so we can't havehave that ...

Hopefully on Friday I will get my new fire pump re set up after it going under water a while back.

La Nina. Great news as l just booked a 5 day holiday under Bortle 2 skies in Ruffy, Victoria with my new ED72 and Star Adventure GTi travel set up. Combined with a DSLR and field flatner I'm hoping to learn lots.
Worst case scenario is l learn how to use the camera better and get some great wildlife shots.

So I’m beginning to realise I have a problem… you see the more cloudy/rainy nights it seems the more time I spend inside, cruising the forums & icetrade pages, with the inevitable outcome that I end up buying more random Astro gear.. of course the weather gods see it necessary to punish my poor financial decisions… and the vicious cycle continues :help:

I generally don't knock the rain - we live rural and rely on tank water on our bit of land - but it's got to the point where (a) everywhere you step it squelches, (b) we've been cut off by flooded causeways and creeks more times in the past two years than in the previous ten, and (c) I've only had two clear nights in over three weeks - and the clouds rolled in about 9.30pm on one of those!


And yes - I've made some purchases of astro gear as well. I'm part of the problem... :doh:

If you remember, at the beginning of the pandemic when so many had to go into isolation, they got bored and went out and bought nearly every telescope available. No wonder we are in for another wet season.

Does anyone check Clear Outside? It's been taunting me for months now. :screwy:

In the week's forecast, there'll be maybe one clear night (green squares) but as it gets closer, the forecast changes for the worse, the squares turn red and it keeps happening over and over again. It often forecasts a clear night some days ahead but that night never comes. It's doing it deliberately, I'm sure. :help:
