I have an eq5 mount that I would like to add an RA motor to at least and my question is, are there different motors available for this mount? Is one type/brand any better than another?
Thanks.

Geoff, I thought real men 'pushed' their scopes!!!

According to my research when I was searching for a mount, the best GoTo/Drive unit for the EQ5 is the Vixen 2000PC, but it is no longer made.

BUT . . . . you can now get an equivelent copy in Australia brand new, called the 'Eclipse GotoStar'. I noticed that it is available from Astro Optical Supplies in Melbourne for $895 completely fitted to your mount

Yeah yeah Ken I know  I'll have to edit that and also the "newt nut" bit as I just bought a Vixen refractor

I don't need goto, just a basic dumb drive.

Hi Geoff!
The EQ-5 drive is available for RA only with a price of 89.- Euro,
For RA and DEC, 2 motors for Euro 139.- .
See this link:

I do have the 2 motors drive and it works perfect.

It seems that most everyone uses the same generic drive.
I just ordered the dual drive for $189 at Bintel. Price has dropped $100 :eyepop:

Thanks all.

Hi Geoff,
Be careful with this series of controller and power.
Make sure the connections are done when powered off, and if using a powerpak, make sure it is regulated to no more than 6 v.
They "pop" very easily:eyepop:

Adrian
