Is this a hoax or a real scientific paper: https://arxiv.org/abs/2208.11215
The PDF is downloadable free of charge.
I don't like the way they refer to the observed phenomena as ships and some of the speeds they claim are totally insane.
I also would like to know if they made these observations before or after the start of the war.

hi stefan,

i've followed the current events fairly closely.

it all kicked off with some events in 2004 with pilot David Fravor's encounter (the tic tac) although it only came to light more recently with the leak of a few navy videos.

David Fravor on Joe Rogan explaining the encounter.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Eco2s3-0zsQ

the main concern was the object 'knowing' their CAP point

the three videos were confirmed to be 'authentic' by the pentagon.
videos below
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rO_M0hLlJ-Q

Lt Ryan Graves who i believe filmed some of these videos explains that the UAPs are becoming a flight risk - as they see them nearly every day and they hang around the flight path of training areas. This one looked like a cube with a circular force field around it apparently.

So a combo of the cap point and the near misses/flight safety has triggered the modern interest. The main issues being them becoming increasing flight risks with many near misses and knowledge of the cap point which should not be known.

Congress required the Office of the Director of National Intelligence to release a report and detailed analysis of the unidentified aerial phenomena data and intelligence that was compiled by the the office of naval intelligence and others.
Report below:

Additional video leak of another UAP was released

Intelligence SubCommittee heard 17 May 2022
Public meeting below

Intelligence reports these things are not black projects.
Pilots now required to report UAPs.

Physics of UAPs from Professor Kevin Knuth

Starting to get a bit stranger - Gary Nolan - Stanford Prof - on the effects on people's bodies when coming into close proximity to UAPs (being approached by CIA and an aerospace company to assist in investigating)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T3sszdf_93w

A bit more strange are the US navy patents by Salvatore Pais -
https://patents.justia.com/inventor/salvatore-cezar-pais
which if combined would probably produce something very very similar to these UAPs.

only interview I know of for you physicists out there:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5E6QyAhTB3o

not reported here is that the patent office rejected them due to being not feasible, but then a navy general called and advised that it wasn't theoretical. something like that - can't find a link. Anyway - reverse engineering or all man made?

So yes paper probably not a hoax. There has been a concerted effort to de-stigmatise UAPs and getting science from the phenomena.

cheers

Thanks Russell,

I'm aware that there are all sorts of investigations happening but what I like about this one is that they used the same sort of equipment that we astrophotographers use and seem to have discovered a class of phenomena that we did not know existed.
I just find it strange that in a science paper the investigators refer to the unidentified objects they detected as ships.

I'm prepared to be corrected here, but 15kps in the lower 10k of the atmosphere would surely cause a fireball?

The level of UFO/UAP interest always peaks during times of high stress- right back to medieval times.

This all feel like what we went through in the late 50s/early 60s, but even with many more cameras everywhere and much better ones, the pictures aren't any better...

Yes it is hard to accept that kind of speed being possible in the lower atmosphere. Even hypersonic weapons are slow compared to that.

Interest in UFOs comes and goes but we are not talking anecdotal evidence in this case. These are supposed to be scientists following the scientific method. They pointed cameras to the sky in daylight taking very short exposures in quick succession and claiming the detection of very fast moving objects. This hasn't been done before. I have problems believing their claims. They give the location but not the time of the observations.
Also no mention of the software used for sifting through the captured images or how frequent the detections occurred.

Looks like it wasn't a hoax. It was just sloppy "science":
