The Skywatcher website clearly states that warranties are non-transferable, yet in the classifieds I often see Skywatcher items for sale and "still under warranty" - has anyone ever tried to make a warranty claim on a second-hand item?

I haven't tried it but I'd imagine that if you had the original receipt, there shouldn't be a problem (so long as there are no names linked to the receipt)

I can't speak for Skywatcher, but I believe that Canon will warranty their lenses anywhere in the world, but only warranty their cameras in the country of purchase. Buying that new DSLR overseas may be cheaper, but it could end up costing you in the long run.
I imagine Skywatcher may be similar, but that's a guesstimation...

Contact skywatcher and avoid speculation. See https://skywatcheraustralia.com.au/contact/
I had to return a skywatcher esprit 80 that was faulty, only had to show a receipt and they exchanged it no dramas , didnt ask any questions
