Gold Bullion for Cash Exchange

Hi Guys, just asking the question, if one had a lot of cash in a safe which has been there for a few years what would be a good thing to do with it.:shrug:

I know you might say, "I'll take it" but seriously would buying Gold Bullion be an option, or something else maybe.

As leaving it sit idle surly devalues it:shrug:

Cash will not devalue (its face value), and plastic notes do not decay. It is usually easier to store than gold bullion. Some banks used to offer gold bullion backed accounts, in fact i had one for years in Canada, these sort of accounts typically market themselves as a shelter against inflation.

I found the best thing to do with cash was to turn it into real estate……. These days I only hold cash for travel and toys….

Well ABC Bullion offer Gold account.
But the price is down from US$2K to $1.7K now so it's not sure thing.
Shares, of course more uncertain. Property, too complicated and can't sell quick. So look at 10 year average. Share is best. Just buy Index fund.

Gold is a good hedge on inflation and has the benefit of high liquidity...shares are similar but you really never want to sell them and the time you need to sell may not see them at a good price.
Ensuring ones fortune does not devalue is a big job and diversity is the key which reduces liquidity and increases the work load.

It was pointed out to me that a hundred years ago, with an ounce of gold could buy you a weeks board and lodging (well, not the Park Hyatt, think more "3 star" digs).

This still holds true today.

Over the long term Gold is an excellent inflation hedge...

....and even shorter terms...I purchased a Moon Landing anniversary Gold coin from the Perth mint a little over 3 years ago.
Even with the current short-term fall in the gold price, the same coin now costs over $1k more.
