The huge filament (now filaprom) has reached the Western limb. A bitter sweet solar astronomy day. Bitter that there were clouds all day (see picture) but sweet that at one moment there were only high clouds that were thin enough to image through. We only had to increase our gain a bit over 6% at the best moment, so not too bad.

We did get to see the most northern part of the large filament get to the limb. Also there was a lot of other action including two new regions on the eastern limb, one of which had many small surge proms that made it look like a plant growing out of a hole. The filament that has hugged around AR3053 continues to stay put, a zig zag pattern has also appeared in this region and the other large northern filament has grown to a considerable length. It looks like the week of super filaments:)

Images taken with Daystar Solar Scout DS60 double stacked with Lunt 40mm etalon, ASI178MM camera and full disk with 0.5 reducer.

Beautiful work, love your images. The detail that you are getting is admirable. The activity on Sol makes it easier I guess rather than a blank disc.

Thanks Jeff.
Definitely easier to get good images when there is something to image. We were very lucky today :)

From the weather satellite images today it looked like you were getting some better weather. Hope that's the case!

A really nice set of images Peter and Clare - your luck was in today. I had heavy cloud all day. Nice to follow that large prom across the sun's disc.

Thanks John.
Yes with the weather at the moment we need lots of luck.
You probably have already looked, but if not it is worth watching the GONG video from El Teide from last night. Not only did the big filament progress further around the limb but the large one in the northern hemisphere just lifted off and vanished around midnight. A very active day :)

Thanks Derek.
You are entirely correct, things start to change pretty quickly. We have noticed some events being near to real time as we watch. Always amazing to see :)
