Well my third attempt at astrophotography and my results are acceptable, but nothing to write home about. I really need a coma corrector and some dark skies. The light polluted skies in Bankstown plus the moon are not an ideal combination for astrophotography. Also need to improve my focussing.
All shots taken with Skywatcher 8" Newtonian on HEQ5 mount with Canon 400D with Baader 2" UHC-S filter.
Eta Carina - 21 x 40s ISO 800; 5 darks & offsets; unguided (couldn't find a guide star - actually couldn't be bothered).
Jewel Box - 15 x 30s ISO 800; 5 darks & offsets; unguided (couldn't find a guide star - actually couldn't be bothered).

Excellent images. Very impressive for a non-auto guided session and the conditions you described. I wouldn’t hesitate to write home about this pair if I had taken them!

Very nice, still plenty of faint outer nebulosity in Eta Carina, and plenty of stars in the Jewl Box

Is this a modded or an unmodded 400D? I am thinking of getting a UHC-S filter and just wondered about the colours if it was modded or not.

Unmodded.
Hi Eternal, they are excellent images considering the amount of LP you must be suffering in Sydney. You are doing a great job.
Top stuff

Nice piccies.
Great effort for non guided.
One question though, why is there more coma in the Eta Carina image than the Jewel Box?
Cheers

I have no idea, except that the exposure time for Eta Carina was longer than the Jewel Box as well as more shots were taken. Perhaps if I replicated the same setup for the Jewel Box the same Coma would appear. Also, the imaging for Eta was slightly out of focus and there was no auto guiding.

I've just come to realise that it's not the Jewel Box cluster but the Gem cluster
