12th July.. Very cloudy and cold in Central Vic today. I waited a few hours for a small patch of blue sky to appear - and managed to get one reasonable image showing the large sunspot group AR3055 in the center of the sun. I measured AR 3055 at about 150,000 km end to end. Single exposure with Canon 550d taken at 4.50 UTC at 540 nm wavelength. The second image shows the cloud that I was dealing with. Thanks for viewing.

Captured a very spotty old Sol despite the clouds, well done.

Top effort John. To have caught anything today shows dedication and persistence. It was just horrible here all day. Also AR3057 that you have caught coming in is promising to be another large region.

The current display put on by the sun is pretty awesome. Marty on CN captured a heap of Ha images last night our time and measured the huge filament to the west of AR3055 and has calculated it to be a length of approximately 47 Earth diameters, or about 299,766km or 186,261 miles... or a light second in length!
