Hi Guys, just have to say I am not that good with IPhones and that sort of stuff, so I ask this question please.

Is there any reasonably good app I could load to my phone that might be helpful in detecting lightning and where it is approaching from.

I had intended to buy some fancy Lightning Detector thingy, but thought I might ask here first.

Some suggestions would be much appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Leon

There are a lot of web sites that provide regular updates of the lightning flashes. The updates tend to be a little slow(15minutes), but will show the storm front very well. That will give you a direction, speed and intensity if you track a few frames.

Imo, you can't beat counting the seconds between the flash and the clap. About 1k per sec, and that allows you to track the storm very well in real time.

Helps to have a good scan of the horizon though...

Ps. If your going north makes sure you chuck a lightning earth on the car and trailer, if your really long you might want 3. Make sure they don't get kicked up/bent up while travelling.
